As part of the Australian Government’s commitment to boost the supply of skilled workers in areas of national skills shortage, from 1 July 2019, the following changes to the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Program are now in effect:
- If you are a new apprentice, or employer hiring a new apprentice, commencing a Certificate III or IV level qualification in one of ten occupations experiencing national skills shortage, you may now be eligible to apply for the Additional Identified Skills Shortage payment.
- The age of eligibility for the Support for Adult Australian Apprentices incentive has been lowered to 21 years for apprentices commencing from 1 July 2019. Lowering the age of eligibility better aligns the incentive with apprentice wage rates and provides greater support for employers seeking to engage adult apprentices in areas of skills needs.
- Applications for Phase Two of the Australian Apprentice Wage Subsidy trial are now open. The Australian Apprentice Wage Subsidy trial supports apprenticeships in skills need occupations in rural and regional areas. If you are an employer who employs a new worker Australian Apprentice from 1 July 2019, undertaking a full-time Certificate III or IV qualification that leads to an occupation listed on the National Skills Needs List in a rural and regional workplace, you may now be eligible to apply.
