Host Business of the Month - January 2018

YBE is a locally run business that provides opportunities for the local Yolngu people of the Gove region. The company is based in Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory of Australia and provides services in civil engineering, mine site rehabilitation, environmental management and building. 

YBE are currently working on many large projects throughout Gove which include civil construction works through out local communities such as Yirrkala and Ski Beach, providing rehabilitation to areas affected by mine sites and constant environmental management of the Gove area.

GTNT partnered with YBE in 2009 to manage the training for their employees. Currently they have one apprentice in the Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical technology trade, managed by GTNT. 

The Local Jobs Program funded by the Northern Territory Government Department of Trade, Business and Innovation, and provides opportunities for Indigenous Territorians to achieve long term sustainable employment, through targeted training and employment. 

Daniel commenced his Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology in May 2017 and travels into Darwin from Nhulunbuy to complete his off-the-job training with Charles Darwin University.

Daniel is excelling in his apprenticeship and was awarded Runner Up at the 2017 Motor Trades Association TIO Automotive Awards 1st Year apprentice in the category ’Heavy Diesel Apprentice of the Year’. Daniel has also just been named one of three finalists for the 2018 GTNT Awards Night in category ‘David Beavington Award for Most Outstanding Automotive Apprentice’. This award is presented in honour of David Beavington to an Automotive Apprentice whom has demonstrated passion, dedication and commitment towards continual learning and development.
